Sports Medicine Program

The G.O. Ortho sports medicine program is a specialized one that focuses on evaluation and treatment of injured athletes. The goals of this program are numerous and include prompt and timely evaluation of injured athletes. We offer both surgical and nonsurgical management of these issues. Surgical management includes minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery for shoulder injuries, elbow injuries, hip injuries, knee injuries and ankle injuries.

A Team Approach to Care

Recognizing that it takes a team approach to provide the most comprehensive care to injured athletes, the G.O. Ortho sports medicine program currently employs two certified athletic trainers. They not only participate in care for athletes in our office but routinely work with local high schools and colleges at training room clinics and, most importantly, cover multiple sporting events to evaluate athletes at the time of injury. Two of the key roles for athletic trainers in the G.O. Ortho sports medicine program are athlete education and injury prevention. The trainers also act as an important resource for local athletic directors and coaches.

Another component of the team approach for care of injured athletes includes sport-specific rehabilitation. We have found this to be a vital element for expediting injured athletes back to play. Our integrated approach includes the physician, physical therapist and trainers. As one of the benefits from having trained at a premier sports medicine facility, we currently use some of the most up-to-date and progressive rehabilitation protocols for our athletes.
